Good price, nice quiet room w/flatscreen TV, comfortable bed, nice shower. Heater works very well!! No air conditioning unit, but they supply fans, so that was cool.

I've lived at the Maya Motel for over 11 years, so I know the place well. It is a clean, quiet, no-nonsense Motel with rates similar to most motels in the Temescal Area. If your looking for a place to party and make noise then go somewhere else as they have a zero tolerance rule for loud partying, inviting extra "guests", and drunken or drug induced rudeness directed towards staff, other guests, or couples that don't care about the rights of neighbors to _not_ need to be informed of exactly why these people are beyond the help of a higher power, let alone couples counseling and anger managment. Also, I will clarify "zero-tolerance": experience has shown that warnings are useless when abusive behaviors are the problem; the parties are asked to leave, and since they never have and never will (but one _must_ ask first) then they are simply removed by OPD. Next, the identities of all are remembered till the end of days and never allowed back. If this sounds like _good_ news, then you probably enjoy the peace and safty your entitled to when you fork out the bucks to rent a private room for yourself or you and your loved one -- and I look forward to you staying here. If this news irks you, well, not to offend (im lying), but i (and most who respect others) never actually cared in the first place... Please note, these decisions are based on an individuals BEHAVIOR and never on Race, Color, Creed, Religious affialition Social Status, or Income. If you'd like to be discriminated against, simply locate the nearest tennis or golf club and attempt to get a membership... If on the other hand, you're looking for a clean, quiet room with a fridge, satellite TV and one queen size bed, look no further. I'd give it Excellent on the service, but occasionally (and I mean very rarely), there can be a language barrier problem interacting with the owners because English is their second language. It's usually not a problem, but I wanted to give an honest and fair review. As for living there 17 years, that's because I started living there before the motel was forced to implement the three week rule, so staying at this (or ANY) motel is usually limited to 3 weeks. Nevertheless, I can't think of a better place in the area to stay. (1) Had to update and remove a star. Reason: occasionally they ask me to watch the desk, and rent rooms when available. Well, unfortunately, they finally came out and pretty much asked me to discriminate based on how the person "appeats". They don't want to rent to people who look like there homeless. Besides being illegal, unethical, and for me, a sin; I refrained from reminding them I was once homeless. Anyway, I said "sure", and then did NOT do what they said. Among the most ethical and deserved lies I've ever told... I should take more stars off, and I will if they don't change... It's sad to say, but this kind of practice is more widespread than I care to say: because it's depressing. (2 - update for 2017) I believe I've convinved them to only judge on behavior. I will add back the star as soon as I have more than a few examples showing the change. In the goal of full disclosure, I must point out that while I'm holding the owners to the highest standards -- and always will -- it would be unfair to them to not say that I know for a fact that many other motels are disgustingly classist and racist. So I believe Im holding this motel up to a standard that many others wouldn't come close to meeting: and these guys are doing pretty damned well. And in the future I bet it will only get better: as the 1st gen parents retire, the children (now adults) will take over. And they raised them really well -- I mean _really_ well (don't forget, I was _here_ at the time); even I'm proud of them. So that will remove any and all of the language barrier problems, and you'd be surprised how many minor issues arise over small miscommunications.
